Our Catholic Passage Team

Catholic Passage is the collaborative effort of a group of both lay men and women, and Catholic priests and deacons. Fr. Brian Feller, a priest of the Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, began this collaboration to help the lay faithful in his diocese live out their baptismal graces.

John Sandy is a lifelong Catholic who believes faith is best lived at the intersection of prayer, culture, and everyday life. He is a host of The Catholic Passage Podcast, where he explores questions of belief, beauty, suffering, and hope through conversations that are thoughtful, curious, and grounded in the Catholic tradition.

Raised in Spirit Lake, Iowa, John has a deep love for history, storytelling, and place—especially the people and traditions of the Iowa Great Lakes region. He enjoys reading history, interviewing guests from a wide range of backgrounds, and finding ways to make big ideas accessible and human. When he’s not recording or writing, he can often be found at the lake with his family, swimming, hunting, or cheering on his kids from the sidelines.

John lives in Iowa with his wife, Elizabeth, and their four children. His faith, family, and love of conversation shape everything he does—and he hopes Catholic Passage serves as a welcoming space for reflection, dialogue, and growth in the life of faith.

Ever Ancient, Ever New

We have learned so much from those who have come before us and those we seek to follow. The timeless truths and beauty of our faith are always present throughout time, offering a renewed experience for each new generation. We simply hope to be a small contributing piece in what will ultimately shape the faith lives of our children and the next generation. Catholic Passage is very grateful for the service of those in the Center for Catholic Education at Aquinas College (Nashville, Tennessee), the Department of Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minnesota), the writings of Archbishop Michael Miller C.S.B. (former secretary for the Congregation for Catholic Education), Sources of Renewal: The Implementation of Vatican II, by Karol Wojtyla & St. John Paul II, Bishop R. Walker Nickless’ Pastoral Letter, Ecclesia Semper Reformanda, and the Universal Magisterium of the Catholic Church.
